HISTORY OF CPAS The School's Beginnings In 1960 a school was set up in the Progress Hall (in the area where Traces Restaurant now stands). In 1961 the school was transferred to new transportable buildings on the present school grounds. The official opening did not take place for eighteen months. Over the years student enrolments began to rise with the development of the town and new buildings and equipment were developed and bought. The last building and reconstruction of old buildings being the new Science Block and the upgrading of the old Science building into a double Information Technology suite. CPAS is an excellent venue for discovering more about other people, as well as oneself. The varied backgrounds of its members have brought a wealth of cultural heritage to examine and enjoy. Community members have been encouraged to share their heritage through Cultural Awareness weeks, Elective weeks, class activities, celebrations and recently LOTE. There have been many highlights and developments. If you wish to know more about the history of the school then please do not hesitate to either visit us or contact us.. HIGHLIGHT "Coober Pedy Area School has grown from 100 students and 5 teachers to one of 380 students and 28 teachers in a matter of 6 years." 1975. (Extract from "Breaking New Ground" Coober Pedy School 1960-1986 p 26.)
